CES 2016: Nikon Joins The 360 Action Cam Ranks

In a surprise announcement here at CES 2016, Nikon unveiled the KeyMission 360, a rugged 360-degree camera that captures 4K UHD video and stills.

Nikon now joins Ricoh with its Theta 360 as the only traditional camera manufacturers to offer these products (other small brands are also in the growing field).

The KeyMission 360 is targeted to action sports enthusiasts since it’s tiny, waterproof to 100 feet, and can handle dust, shock and the cold. Built-in vibration reduction will help smooth out the shakes as mountain bikers record their rattles over the rocks. Nikon was short on specs, pricing and delivery (spring) other than touting how radical a move this was for the notoriously conservative company. We’ll see if it can make a dent in GoPro’s action cam market share.
