Apple Updates MacBook Pro Models

Cupertino, Calif. — Apple revealed updates to its MacBook Pro notebooks with Retina displays on Tuesday, offering faster processing, double the memory in both entry-level configurations, and a new, lower opening price for a 15-inch model.

Cupertino, Calif. — Apple revealed updates to its MacBook Pro notebooks with Retina displays on Tuesday, offering faster processing, double the memory in both entry-level configurations, and a new, lower opening price for a 15-inch model.

Apple also dropped the opening price of its non-Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro, by $100, to $1,099, offering a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.1GHz, 4GB of memory, Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a 500GB hard drive.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display adds a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.1 GHz, 8GB of memory, 128GB of flash storage and Intel Iris graphics starting at $1,299.

A configuration with a 2.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.1 GHz, 8GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage and Intel Iris graphics starts at $1,499; and with a 2.8 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz, 8GB of memory, 512GB of flash storage and Intel Iris graphics starts at $1,799.

Configure-to-order options include faster dual-core Intel Core i7 processors up to 3.0 GHz with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.5 GHz, up to 16GB of memory and flash storage up to 1TB.

The MacBook Pro with Retina display models offer 0.71-inch-thin designs, extended battery life of up to nine hours and include a free upgrade to OS X Yosemite this fall. Models ship with OS X Mavericks.

Meanwhile, Apple cut the price of its top-of-the-line 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display to $2,499. It is available with a 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.7GHz, 16GB of memory, 512GB of flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics starting at $2,499.

A version with a 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz, 16GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage and Intel Iris Pro graphics starts at $1,999.

Configure-to-order options include faster quad-core Intel Core i7 processors up to 2.8GHz with Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.0GHz and flash storage up to 1TB, Apple said.

Apple said iLife and iWork come free with every new Mac. iLife enables creating videos with iMovie; creating or learning to play music on piano or guitar with GarageBand; and organizing, editing and sharing images with iPhoto.

iWork productivity apps, Pages, Numbers and Keynote allow for editing and sharing documents, spreadsheets and presentations, and iWork for iCloud beta allows creating a document on iPhone or iPad, editing it on a Mac and sharing it with friends, even if they are on a PC.

The new MacBook Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina Display models are now today at the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.
