Apple Slims Down New iPad Pro & MacBook Air

Adds Face ID to Pro

Apple unveiled a new iPad yesterday that boasts an edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display, rounded corners and a unibody enclosure.

It also introduced its most affordable MacBook Air with a Retina display.

The new iPad Pro, offered in 11- and 12.9-inch sizes, comes with Face ID, a first for iPads. Other details include a A12X Bionic chip, 1TB of storage, four speakers and a USB-C connector, also a first. Its updated backlight design makes it the company’s brightest iPad display yet, Apple said.

The iPad Pro also boasts wide color support and has an anti-reflective coating to improve outdoor viewing. ProMotion technology automatically adjusts the display refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and increased responsiveness.

Both models measure 5.9mm thick, making them the slimmest iPads to date. Battery life is listed at 10 hours.

The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be available in silver and Space Gray finishes in 64GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options. Pricing ranges from $799 to $1,149.

TechRadar, a TWICE sister brand, was on the scene at the Apple event and posted a hands-on review.

The company has also updated the Apple Pencil so that it magnetically attaches to iPad Pro while simultaneously charging wirelessly. A new touch sensor, meanwhile, detects taps for new app interactivity. Apple’s new Smart Keyboard Folio employs USB-C charging, providing a full-sized keyboard that doesn’t require external charging.

The second-generation Apple Pencil will be available for $129, and the Smart Keyboard Folio is available in space gray for $179 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $199 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

A new Smart Folio for iPad Pro, in a protective, polyurethane folio design, will be available in a variety of colors for $79 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $99 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro at Apple.com and Apple Store locations.

Apple also announced a new MacBook Air with a 13-inch Retina display, Force Touch trackpad, solid-state drive, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, eighth-gen Intel Core i5 processor, Intel UHD Graphics and 2133 MHz system memory up to 16GB. It also has a Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the keyboard as well as a keyboard with individually backlit keys.

The speakers are said to be 25 percent louder with twice as much bass than the previous model.

A new wedge-shaped design that’s 0.61 inches at its thickest point is meant to make it more compact and portable. Battery life is listed at 12 hours.

The new MacBook Air will be offered in gold, Space Gray and silver. With pricing starting at $1,199, Apple called it its most affordable Mac with a Retina display. It will be available at retail Nov. 14.

Laptop Mag, also a TWICE sister brand, posted its own hands-on review of the new MacBook Air.
