Altec Unveils Game Console, PC Speakers

Altec Lansing is preparing to ship the company’s first game console speaker line next month, along with its new 200 Series multimedia speakers.

The three-unit XA series is comprised of the XA3001, XA3021 and XA3051 and is targeted at the game console market. These units will have suggested retail prices of $49, $99 and $199 with the first two shipping in May and the last model in July. The XA3001 is a subwoofer intended to give TVs with poor audio quality a boost, the XA3021 is a three-piece system and the XA3051 is a six-piece 5.1-channel set that is also being positioned as an entry-level home theater system, said Robert Puzey, Altec’s product manager.

The XA models will be marketed in a store’s gaming area.

The 200 Series also contains three models, the 220, 221 and 251. All three are shipping in May with respective suggested retail prices of $29, $49 and $99.

The six-piece 251’s satellite speakers feature 3-inch drivers with the subwoofer being powered by a 5.25-inch woofer and the system is rated at 90 watts. The three-piece 221 pushes out 50-watts of power.

All the products will sell through Altec Lansing’s normal retail partners and the company is holding talks with toy and software retailers, said Mark Kapsky, Altec’s marketing director.
