Vimeo Unveils Online Video Awards, Fest

, the
video sharing site devoted to creative content producers, announced Thursday
the establishment of its first ever Video Festival & Awards event.

The two-day event will be presented in New York on Oct. 8-9 with
workshops and an awards ceremony on the evening of Oct. 9. Awards will be
presented for the best online videos in nine categories including: Narrative,
Documentary, Animation, Music Video, Remix, Experimental, Original Series,
Capture and Motion Graphics.

One entry will be selected as the best overall online video, for
which the producer will receive a $25,000 prize.

Winning entries will be selected by a panel of judges who are
prominent for works in various genres of film and video production, including
director David Lynch (Blue Velvet), Roman Coppola (The Strokes music videos),
Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me documentary), Nicholas Schmerkin (Logorama
animation), and DJ Spooky (Songs of a Dead Dreamer remix), among others.

Vimeo will showcase winning entries on its website.

Video submissions will be accepted at the event

now through the end of July.
Entries must be original works that have been posted online within the past 24
months. They do not have to have been posted on Vimeo to qualify.

Vimeo will charge $20 per video entry or $5 for Vimeo Plus
members.

Vimeo, which is owned by IAC, is an online video portal that
accepts only original user-generated content.

Vimeo said that it has registered 3.5 million users to date, and
averages about 26.1 million monthly unique visitors.

Vimeo’s audience runs approximately 55 percent male, 45 percent
female, ages 18-49.
