New York — Several software vendors added or updated their digital imaging programs this week, building in more support for the RAW image files recorded by high-end cameras and d-SLRs.
ACD Systems announced the first “pro” version of its ACDSee imaging program. The new version supports Adobe’s DNG (Digital Negative Specification) and a host of camera-specific RAW formats. The program can batch-process files and save the process as a single step that can later be applied to other images.
Additional features include photo tagging, customizable toolbars, tabs and categories, watermarking, support for ICC color profiles and new photo filters. The software also supports printing photos, contact sheets, creating slide shows and CD/DVD burning.
ACDSee Pro will ship in January for $129.99 in a Windows edition.
Arcsoft took aim at the mass market with a line of seven single function Windows-based titles all retailing for a suggested $19.99.
To promote retail digital photo printing services, the programs will feature unique links to a retailers’ online printing services.
The titles will include PictureFix Plus, a photo editor that can also create photo calendars and photo albums; Greeting Card Creator for making photo greeting cards that can be printed at home or saved as a file and brought to retail; Scrapbook Creator for making scrapbook pages from digital images; Quick Transfer for transferring digital images from a memory card to a PC, printer or e-mail application; Quick Prints, for printing images; Slide Show Maker for creating and saving multimedia slideshows to CD/DVD; and Picture Saver for archiving images to CD/DVD or external drives.
Ulead Systems announced the eleventh version of its Windows-based PhotoImpact title. Version 11 features a new interface that divides the program into several modes for users of various skill levels. The program also supports 16-bit editing/RAW support image files and several new image editing tools including SmartCurves, SmartRemove Scene Compositor and “non-destructive” Layer Masks.
The program now offers a “save for video” option for saving graphics and a “save for mobile” option for automatically resizing images to display on camera phones, PDAs and the Sony PSP.
PhotoImpact 11 is shipping now for a suggested $89.99.
