Sony Adds Car Radios

San Diego - Sony will ship four new head units this September, all with RDS, that start at $80.

The new CD/receivers that start at $80 suggested retail price, offer RDS readouts of artist and song information when users tune to compatible FM radio stations.

The top unit, model CDX-GT640UI at $160 a suggested retail price, has front USB and auxiliary inputs for an easy connection to iPods and other devices. It is satellite and HD Radio ready and has three preamp subwoofer outputs and a flip-down display.  The step-down CDX-GT540UI offers similar features without the flip-down display, and it has two preamp subwoofer outputs at a suggested retail price of $140.  Also available are a CDX-GT340 ($100) and CDX-GT240 ($80) without USB inputs.
