Sharp 70-inch Aquos UHD TV Hits Stores

Mahwah, N.J. – Sharp Electronics said Wednesday its 70-inch Aquos Ultra HD LED LCD TV is now available at regional and national specialty retailers around the country.

Sharp model LC-70UD1U (carrying a $7,499 suggested retail and a $5,999 unilateral pricing policy tag), is billed as the first THX 4K Certified Ultra HDTV on the market.

The Ultra HDTV (UHD) set is available at national specialty retailers, major regional retailers and on Amazon.com, among other venues, the company said.

The set incorporates Sharp’s proprietary two-step Revelation 4K upscaler using a dual-core processor to present near-UHD-quality resolution from sub-UHD source material.

“For the past several years the focus with high-end television panels was on delivering a more exciting experience through size,” stated John Herrington, Sharp Electronics Marketing president. “With the introduction of our Aquos 4K TV, we now offer consumers an even more life-like TV experience coupling size with resolution and clarity.”

At 3,840-by-2,160 pixels, the set offers four times the resolution of today’s best Full HD 1080p TVs.

Even up-scaled images are said to benefit from better screen uniformity, color performance and motion processing, using Sharp’s technology.

This includes a new cosmetic design, and a built-in six-speaker sound system with DuoBass dual subwoofer technology to enhance sound along with the picture.

The set also includes the company’s SmartCentral smart TV system with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity to access streaming entertainment services and surf the web.
