Samsung, Sony Team For Memory Stick Development

New York — Samsung and Sony made a joint announcement that Samsung will begin manufacturing and selling branded Memory Stick flash memory cards.

Samsung is currently the world’s largest manufacturer of NAND-type flash memory, which is found in most forms of removable flash media used in consumer electronics. The company was a licensee of the Memory Stick format as of August 2001 but had not been manufacturing it or selling it under its own brand.

Samsung currently incorporates SD memory in its Digimax line of digital cameras but uses Memory Stick in its DV camcorders, DVD players, and notebooks.
