Pioneer: More Android Phones Compatible With AppRadio Mode Car Stereos

Long Beach, Calif. – The number of Android smartphones compatible with Pioneer in-dash head units incorporating AppRadio Mode technology has grown to 40 now that Pioneer has confirmed that 16 more Android phones are compatible, Pioneer announced.

The 16 smartphones tested by Pioneer for compatibility include the HTC One, One S, One XL; Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD and Razr HD; Samsung Galaxy SIII, S4 Note II, and Galaxy Express; and the Sony Xperia Z, TX, TL, and ZL.

In addition, the company found that eight other Android smartphones previously confirmed as compatible with AppRadio Mode head units are compatible with the latest Android OS updates for those phones. The smartphones are from HTC, LG, Samsung and Sony

(See table listing all 24 head units and the adapters needed to connect to an Android phone.)

Equipped with AppRadio Mode technology, a head unit’s touchscreen controls such key functions of connected Android and iPhone smartphones as media playback, contacts, and calendar. The touchscreens also control compatible apps, including navigation and real-time traffic apps, on-demand music subscription services, and others.

The number of compatible Android apps is 19, and the number of compatible iOS apps is almost three dozen.

AppRadio Mode head units include the recently announced AppRadio 3 (SPH-DA210 and SPH-DA110) and AppRadio 2 head units, AVH-X8500BHS DVD-receiver, and AVIC-X950BH and AVIC-Z150BH navigation receivers.

Connecting the Android phones to the head units requires Pioneer’s separately sold CD-AH200C Android Connection Kit. For the Samsung Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4, the original Samsung Connector (EPL-FU10BEBSTD) is also required.
