Pentax Adds Q10 Compact System Camera

Denver – Pentax Ricoh Imaging Americas has introduced the latest in its Q-system design-centric compact system camera line — the Q10, offering a CMOS 12.4-megapixel sensor.

Also introduced was a compatible Q-Mount Pentax 06 15-45mm F2.8 telephoto zoom lens and Adapter Q for Pentax K-mount lenses.

The super-compact and ultra-lightweight Pentax Q10 is said to provide DSLR-quality in a smaller, lighter form factor.

The new CMOS image sensor is aided by an upgraded algorithm to provide users with improved performance, including higher quality images and faster autofocus operation, Pentax said.

The Q10 incorporates a supersonic vibration mechanism, which vibrates the image sensor at high speed to shake the dust off its surface.

The camera’s body design was meant to resemble the preceding Pentax Q, which was designed as a miniature version of a full-scale DSLR camera, the company said.

The camera adds a four-position Quick Dial on the front that can be assigned to Smart Effect modes.

The camera has a 3-inch LCD and captures 1080p video. It will hit retail in October in a choice of red or silver body colors at a $600 suggested retail, including the model 02 kit lens.

The Q-Mount 06 telephoto lens with an F2.8 maximum aperture and 15-45mm zoom range carries a $300 suggested retail.

The adapter Q for K-mount lenses will be available in 2012 at $250.
