has jumped into the pocket video cam category through the introduction Tuesday of its LS-20M Linear PCM recorder.
The video camera/recorder, which ships in June at a $299 suggested retail, records 1080p HD video, 24 bit/96 kHz Linear PCM stereo sound and includes a 2-inch LCD screen and a smaller 1.46-inch data screen that shows the time, audio levels and remaining battery life.
Other features include a 4x digital zoom auto-focus lens, and a number of Magic Movie settings including Rock Magic Movie (to make videos resembling classic rock music videos), Sketch (to create a pencil drawing effect from videos), Pinhole (to produce darkened vignetting effect) and Pop (for bright, exaggerated colors resembling pop art).
Also included is an auto voice-activation feature to automatically start recording when someone speaks.
The Olympus LS-20M is offered in a black and silver body, weighs 5.4 ounces and includes a 2GB memory card.
"The potential number of uses for the Olympus LS-20M Linear PCM recorder are limitless," said Amy Leslie, Olympus Imaging America product manager.
