Nokia Adds New Flagship Lumia

London – Nokia updated its flagship Lumia smartphone with the launch of the Lumia 925, which upgrades camera capabilities and adds AMOLED display and metal frame.

The smartphone will be available exclusively through T-Mobile sometime after June, making it the carrier’s first LTE-equipped Windows Phone 8 smartphone. In Europe, it will retail for 469 euros, or $608.

In the U.S., AT&T launched Nokia’s previous flagship, the Lumia 920, last December and currently offers it at $99.

The 925 is Nokia’s first Lumia series device with exterior metal, though the back is still polycarbonate. Key camera upgrades include improved low-light imaging, six physical Carl Zeiss lenses, and Smart Camera mode, which will also be available as an update to all Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

Nokia Smart Camera captures 10 images in rapid sequence and enables picture editing via such applications as Action Shot, Remove Moving Object, and Change Faces. Action Shot lets users snap once and combine a sequence of movements into one image. The Remove Moving Object feature lets users erase moving people or objects in the background. For group shots, the Change Faces feature lets users combine the best facial expressions from a group of people taken in a series of shots into a single photo.

Like the 920, the 925 features main PureView 8.7-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, autofocus, dual-LED flash, and 1080p/30fps motion capture. Other carryover features include front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera that records 720p video, 4.5-inch 15:9 Nokia PureMotion HD+ WXGA display with 334 ppi, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, 2000mAh battery, dual-LED flash, and Super Sensitive touchscreen, which lets consumers use their fingernails or gloved fingers to control the screen’s user interface.

The new model will feature an AMOLED display and 16GB of embedded memory, whereas AT&T’s Lumia 920 features 32GB of embedded memory and LCD IPS display. The AMOLED display is said to offers superior brightness and sunlight performance.

In another difference, the new model is compatible with optional wireless charging back covers sold separately, whereas the 920 features embedded wireless charging.

The 925’s polycarbonate back cover comes in choice of white, grey or black, and the separately sold wireless-charging back covers will come in white, black, yellow, and red.
