Nikon Adds New CoolPix Projector Cam

Nikon

introduced Tuesday two
point-and-shoot digital cameras in its CoolPix line, including a  second-generation model with an integrated
Pico projector.

The CoolPix S5100
($180 suggested retail) the S1100pj ($350 suggested retail) are part of the
company’s Style Series.

Models include
Nikon’s Expeed C2 image processing engine for sharper images and offer high-definition
video with a dedicated video record button on the back of the camera.

Other CoolPix
features include Scene Auto Selector/Easy Auto Mode, which automatically
recognizes the shooting situation and adjusts camera settings, and a Smart
Portrait System that incorporates a series of automatic functions including in‐camera
red‐eye
fix, improved face‐priority AF, face priority AE, smile mode, blink
warning and skin softening.

Shipping in
September, the S1100pj is Nikon’s second camera to incorporate a mini video
projector, this time offering a 40 percent increase in projected image
brightness. The 14-megapixel camera with 14 Lumens of projector brightness adds
a stand and touch screen interface for easier set-up and playback.

A computer
connection feature allows the S1100pj to be connected to a computer via USB to
project whatever is on the computer screen in addition to JPEG image files
saved to the camera’s memory card or internal memory.

Additional
creative features include a built‐in slide show function that plays
photos with music and one‐touch HD 720p movie recordings
through the internal projector with a screen size of up to 47 inches from more
than 7‐feet away.

In also features a
3-inch 460,000-dot touch LCD screen, and a new paint function enabling writing
and drawing on projected images in real time.

Also included is a
range of retouch functions from adding stamps for an entertaining effect to rating
photos for easier searches.

The retouch menu
includes soft, selective color, cross screen, fisheye effect, miniature effect
and makeup effect.

Other features
include a 5x wide‐angle optical zoom‐Nikkor glass lens (28‐140mm)
and a five‐way VR image stabilization system with ISO settings up
to 6,400, 17 scene modes, subject tracking, easy auto mode and Nikon’s Smart
Portrait System.

The S1100pj will
be available in a choice of colors including black, violet, green and silver.

The affordable
S5100 was designed for both speed and ease of use, and offers strong low-light
performance.

Shipping in
October in a choice of black, pink, purple and blue, the S5100 includes low-light
shooting technologies including: image processing that results in less noise at
high sensitivities, motion detection function, lens‐shift
vibration reduction (VR) function and a new flash control system.

Other key features
include: 12.2‐megapixel resolution, a 2.7‐inch LCD
display, 5x optical zoom and a four‐way VR image stabilization system
with ISO settings to 3200 at full resolution. The CoolPix S5100 also adds a new
tripod detection function found on premium Nikkor lenses to detect handheld or
tripod shooting and automatically select the appropriate exposure, ISO
sensitivity and shutter speed to reduce image blur.

Other features
include: 18 scene modes, scene auto selector, subject tracking, and a Smart
Portrait System.
