Mitac Will Buy Navman

Lake Forest, Ill. — Mitac is expected to purchase GPS maker Navman for an undisclosed sum from outdoors, marine and recreational goods company Brunswick, based here.

Mitac already owns the Mio GPS brand, so Navman and Mio would become sister companies. Mitac is a Taiwanese manufacturer of electronics including personal computers and GPS equipment.

Brunswick officially placed Navman up for sale last April.

Mio said, “It is business as usual for all the parties” at present, according to a spokesman who estimates Mio’s personal navigation device share in the United States at over six percent. Completion of the sale is subject to regulatory approval, said Brunswick.
