Los Angeles — LG Electronics said it will debut and sell the first “Ultra High Definition” — or 4K — TV at Video & Audio Center’s Lawndale, Calif., store today.
The event will take place today at the store 11 a.m. Western time and the sets will go on sale at noon, but the retailer reported that eager consumers began to line up since 9 p.m. last night when a dress rehearsal was being held at the store. Tom Campbell, Video and Audio Center corporate director and spokesman, told TWICE more than 1,000 customers are expected for the event today.
Featured speakers include Jeff Joseph, communications and strategic relationships senior VP for the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), and Randall Dark, an award-winning director and 4K content pioneer, along with Jay Vandenbree, LG Electronics USA senior VP, and Joseph Akhtarzad and Mayer Akhtarzad, co-owners of Video and Audio Center
The LG 84-inch 84LM9600 LED TV provides four times the resolution of today’s HDTVs and has a suggested retail of $19,999. LG said the TV quadruples the level of detail from Full 1080p HD resolution to a massive 8 million pixels.
Sony is also said to be preparing to introduce its own big-screen 4K TV at retail by the end of November.
