JVC Adds iHeart App Control To 3 CD-Receivers

Long Beach, Calif. – Three of four single-DIN CD-receivers debuting from JVC Mobile Entertainment are the company’s first CD-receivers to control the iHeart Radio app on a USB-connected iPhone.

Control of iHeart had been available only in navigation-equipped head units from JVC.

The four new CD-receivers, priced from a suggested $104.95 to $129.95, ship in December. The three models that control the iHeart app also control Pandora running on a USB-connected iPhone. The opening price for Pandora control in CD-receivers remains unchanged at $104.95.

The three models that control the iHeart and Pandora apps let users select iHeart and Pandora stations, create custom stations, and control play/pause functions from the heads’ front-panel controls. Dedicated keys for thumb-up and thumb-down (or skip) keys also appear on the front faceplate. The head units also display song information from both apps.

All four CD receivers units also add new digital processing tuners for better AM and FM reception quality.

The CD receivers will join an overall lineup of nine single-DIN CD-receivers in the company’s regular and Arsenal lines. Arsenal carries a two-year warranty.

In a separate announcement, JVC said it will go to January’s International CES with three new single-DIN digital media receivers (or mechless receivers), which lack CD mechanisms. The introductions will expand the company’s mechless selection to three from two. Details weren’t announced.

The two new Arsenal CD-receivers start with the $109 Arsenal KD-AR555, which features high-amperage USB port that isn’t certified as Made for iPod/iPhone. The USB port, however, plays back MP3/WMA/WAV playback from USB-connected mass-storage devices, including Android phones switched to mass-storage mode. The head units also comes with single-zone variable-color illumination panel, aux input, front and selectable rear/subwoofer line outputs, and compatibility with add-on steering-wheel-control interfaces.

The $129.95 Arsenal KD-AR755 features high-amperage Made for iPod/iPhone USB port, MP3/WMA/WAV playback from USB-connected mass-storage devices, aux input, and control of iHeart and Pandora apps running on a USB-connected iPhone. It also features front, rear, and subwoofer 4.8-volt line outs, compatibility with add-on steering-wheel-control interfaces, and a three-zone variable-color illuminated LCD panel. That lets users choose from more than 30,000 custom color combinations.

In JVC’s regular series, the $104.95 KD-R650 features high-amperage Made for iPod/iPhone USB port, MP3/WMA/WAV playback from USB-connected mass-storage devices, aux input, and control of iHeart and Pandora on a USB-connected iPhone. It also features front and selectable rear/subwoofer line outputs.

The regular-series KD-R750 at $119.95 offers those features plus three-zone variable-color illuminated LCD panel.

The three heads with iPod/iPhone-certified USB port aren’t iPad-certified, but “iPad Audio will read on the three decks,” a spokesperson said.
