Milford, Conn. – Electronics and appliance retail giant hhgregg
opened its first store in Philadelphia yesterday, and also made its first
forays into New Jersey and Delaware.
The showroom, located in northeast Philly, was one of six
Pennsylvania locations that formally debuted yesterday.
They were joined by the first three hhgregg stores in nearby
Delaware and its first three locations in New Jersey.
The latter include the Southern New Jersey towns of Princeton, Atlantic City and Woodbury that also serve the Philadelphia market, and where a battleground is brewing between hhgregg, New Jersey-based Sixth Avenue Electronics and Long Island-based P.C. Richard & Son. Sixth Avenue entered the greater Philly area last year with two stores and has reportedly acquired real estate for two more, while P.C. Richard is preparing to open its first two locations in The City of Brotherly Love.
At the same time, Long Island-based P.C. Richard continues
to breech the New England market, where it opened its second and third
Connecticut stores on Tuesday. The showrooms, located in former Linens ‘n
Things and Circuit City sites in Milford and North Haven, join the retailer’s
first Nutmeg State store, which opened last year in Norwalk.
A fourth P.C. Richard showroom is scheduled to open soon in
