hhgregg Adds Two Chicago-Area Stores

Highland, Ind. – hhgregg has opened two new locations in
Chicagoland, raising its store count in that market to 18.

The latest 25,000-square-foot additions, located here and in
Rockford, Ill., will formally open on Thursday, April 18, with ribbon-cutting
ceremonies, followed by a 10-day grand-opening sale starting Friday at each of
the Chicago-area stores. The stores will also provide special financing offers
and prizes, including a Frigidaire stainless-steel appliance package, a
Magellan GPS device and other giveaways as part of the grand-opening
festivities.

The multiregional CE and appliance chain now operates 210 stores
in 16 states east of the Mississippi, and plans to eventually double its store
count in pursuit of a nationwide footprint.

In other hhgregg news, the company will hold a CE recycling and
sale event April 19-21 in honor of Earth Day. Visitors will be able to dispose
of their used CE devices at no charge at all hhgregg locations except the
Chicago-area stores — which will be holding the grand-opening events — and
replace them with such Earth Day deals as:

  • a 51-inch Samsung plasma TV, reduced to $600
    from $650;

  •  a Nikon 14.2MP DSLR camera with 18-55mm lens and
3-inch LCD viewfinder, marked down to $750 from $975; and
  • a 3.6-cubic-foot Whirlpool top-load washer,
    reduced to $500 from $600.

“We are looking forward to providing our communities with a
convenient, environmentally friendly way of disposing their old or broken
electronics at our stores,” said hhgregg president/CEO Dennis May. “Recycling
electronic equipment keeps waste out of landfills and prevents toxic materials
like lead and mercury from potentially leaking into the ground and polluting
the environment, so we are proud to honor Earth Day with this event.”
