GameCube Launch Pushed Back

Tokyo – Nintendo will delay the U.S. launch of its much-anticipated GameCube console by two weeks to Nov. 18, the company reported today.

Nintendo executives said the decision was made to ensure enough product was on hand for a smooth roll out of the device.

The new launch date does mean the GameCube will hit stores after Microsoft’s Xbox. Originally the two devices were slated for a simultaneous launch. The GameCube Japan launch remains on schedule with the first product reaching stores there on Sept. 14.

Despite today’s news Nintendo said expects to reach its goal of shipping four million units by March 31.

Three new games are expected to be ready in time for the GameCube’s launch and the company plans on spending about $75 million marketing the console.
