Former Fedders Fridge Owner Gordon Stauffer Dead At 74

Greenville, Mich. – Gordon Stauffer, the onetime president and co-owner of Fedders Refrigeration, died suddenly on June 14. He was 74.

Stauffer joined the Fedders unit as purchasing director in 1971, was promoted to president/GM in 1975, and bought the division with friend and business partner Jack Goodale in 1978.

The pair renamed the operation Northland, added under-the-counter refrigeration resource Marvel Industries, and sold the business to British range manufacturer AGA in 2003.

Stauffer continued with AGA Marvel, most recently serving as government relations senior VP. He was also a past chairman of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), and continued to participate in the trade group as an active status honorary chair.

According to the local Greenville Daily News, Stauffer “made many generous donations throughout his time in the community, including his recent donation to United for Health at Spectrum Health United Hospital,” which named its CT/X-ray suite after Stauffer and his wife Sherry and where he served on the board for eight years.

Funeral services will be held Wed., June 19 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church here, and visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.  on Tuesday, June 18 at Hurst Funeral Home here. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions be given to the Brian L. Stauffer Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Greenville Area Community Foundation, 101 N. Lafayette St. Greenville MI 48838. Stauffer’s son Brian was killed in an accident in 1995.
