Emotiva Adding Stereo And Surround Preamps

Franklin, Tenn. — Consumer-direct audio supplier Emotiva Audio is adding the first stereo preamp and first tuner/preamp/surround processor to its mid-level X series, which consists of amps and freestanding speakers.

The $899 XSP-1 stereo preamp ships at the end of the month. The $1,499 XMC-1 is due sometime this quarter.

The fully balanced analog stereo preamplifier features digital control to offer features, resolution and accuracy said by the company to be “unobtainable in a completely analog-based design.” The product is “part of the brand’s ongoing focus on developing products for all tastes, including those who prefer traditional two-channel analog,” a spokesperson added.

Features include an all-analog fully balanced differential-signal path, high-current headphone amplifier with independent level control and separate memory, phono preamp that supports moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, full analog bass management with independently variable crossover points, support for stereo subwoofers and summed mono subwoofer, two sets of balanced line inputs, one set of balanced main outputs, four sets of unbalanced inputs, and one set of unbalanced main outputs.

The $1,499 XMC-1 features AM/FM tuner, 7.1-channel surround decoding, second-zone audio, seven 3D- and 4K-compatible HDMI 1.4 inputs, and one HDMI 1.4 output with audio return channel . The component also incorporates TacT’s TCS 3e Theater Dynamic Room Correction system, which includes a loudness-compensation algorithm to dynamically adjust tonal balance based on volume levels. Users can also adjust system response to their personal tastes while listening to music or movies.

Front and rear USB-A ports stream music in FLAC, AAC, WAV and MP3 formats. An Ethernet port supports networked streaming of the codecs. Digital optical and coaxial inputs support up to 24-bit/192kHz digital audio. The component also features DSD decoding for SACD players. 7.1-channel analog inputs, and ability to be controlled by major home-control systems.

Users can manually set independent crossover frequencies for the center, front, surround, back and subwoofer channels; select multi-band parametric equalization setting per channel; and set independently variable frequency and crossover slope rates by channel grouping.

The component also offers separate level, distance and EQ controls for stereo subwoofers.
