City of Industry, Calif. — Digital camera maker DXG announced a new hybrid digital camera/camcorder capable of playing video games.
The DXG-589V combines a 5-megapixel still camera, VGA-resolution video recorder, digital music player, voice recorder and video game device. The $199 unit’s screen can be rotated to create a “Gameboy shape” for game-playing purposes. It will be preloaded with 20 games.
The device can also connect to TVs to record video directly to its SD card.
The DXG-589V records MPEG-4 video at 30 fps and can interpolate 5-megapixel images up to 10-megapixels.
It ships this month.
