Las Vegas – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) reported today at the National Association that digital television product unit shipments for January and February of 2004 rose more than 124 percent year over year representing $1.3 billion in revenue.
Total shipments for the two months were 853,443 units, a level at which the CEA said the DTV transition is now a reality and simply theoretical. In February factory to dealer shipments totaled 415,210, a 105 percent increase over Feb. 2003, generating $624.6 million in revenue which represents a 75 percent increase.
Since 1998, 9.73 million DTV products have been sold, the CEA said.
The CEA defines a DTV product as integrated sets and monitors displaying active vertical scanning lines of at least 480p and in the case of integrated sets, receiving and decoding ATSC terrestrial digital transmissions.
