Dish Unveils Free iPad 2 Promo For New Subs

Englewood, Colo. — Dish unveiled Wednesday a new promotion offering the choice of an iPad 2 or the first year of programming discounts to new Dish customers signing up for the Hopper DVR and qualified programming package.

Dish is offering the iPad 2 as an incentive to play up the Hopper’s various iOS apps, including an integrated Sling feature that enables viewers to access live or recorded content on the Hopper’s hard drive from a remote iOS device.

The offer of the first year of programming discounts has been part of Dish’s long-running sign-up incentives.

Dish said the option for the iPad 2 will make prospective customers aware of service’s TV Everywhere capabilities, designed to “give customers the power to watch TV anywhere and anytime.”

Customers can watch all their live TV, DVR recordings and On Demand shows using the iPad tablet. (Viewing requires Wi-Fi connection or use of the Hopper Transfers app.)

The Hopper with Sling and iPad offer begins May 22 and runs through Sept. 18.

“Hopper transforms consumers’ computers, smartphones and tablets, into TVs allowing them to watch, anytime, anywhere,” said Dave Shull, Dish executive VP. “Now, with our Hopper and iPad offer, for the first time ever we’ve bundled together everything people need for the true TV Everywhere experience. Providing this device ensures new customers can fully experience all the benefits Hopper offers.”

Dish has developed a collection of iPad apps that are meant to enhance and extend the Dish television experience anywhere. Dish mobile apps include Dish Anywhere, which lets viewers use the Sling feature to watch live TV, DVR recordings and on-demand programs anywhere with an Internet connection; Hopper Transfers, which allows moving recorded television programs from the DVR to iPad; and Dish Explorer, which offers an intuitive second-screen app for the Hopper combining program-discovery tools, social media engagement and remote-control capabilities.

Dish’s apps are free to download and are available from the App Store.
