Marlboro,
N.J. – Two new series of in-wall and in-ceiling custom-install speakers
launched by KEF include the company’s first speakers available in square
shapes.
Both
the new Q-series and C-series models feature rectangular in-wall models and
square models intended for in-ceiling or in-wall installation. They’ll join
round speakers
in the Q and C series.
Select
rectangular and square models are shipping, and the complete lineup of 11 new SKUs
will be shipping in the spring.
All
models in both series, including the previously shipped round models, feature
two-way designs, ultra-thin bezel and low profile for a less-obtrusive
appearance, magnetically mounted speaker grilles, special grille treatments for
use in humid environments, forward woofer mounting to eliminate diffraction distortion,
and “tangerine” waveguide, said to widen dispersion and improve driver
protection.
The
Q-series models feature proprietary Uni-Q driver array, which places the
tweeter in the acoustic center of the woofer to operate as a single point
source. The configuration, not available in in-ceiling speakers from other
brands, disperses sound widely and evenly throughout a room, the company said.
The
C-series models incorporate an asymmetrical tweeter island to reduce
diffraction distortion and improve off-axis, high-frequency response to deliver
near Uni-Q performance.
The
Q-series rectangular speakers consist of the Ci160QLwith 6.5-inch woofer and
0.75-inch tweeter at a suggested $324 each and the $349-each Ci200QL with 8-inch
woofer and 1-inch tweeter.
The
C-series rectangular speakers consist of the $249-each Ci160CL with 6.5-inch
woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter and the $274-each Ci200CL with 8-inch woofer and
1-inch tweeter.
The
Q-series square speakers consist of four models, starting with the $219-each Ci100QS
with 4-inch woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter, the $249-each Ci130QS with 5.25-inch
woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter, the $299-each Ci160QS with 6.5-inch woofer and
0.75-inch tweeter, and the $349-each Ci200QS with 8-inch woofer and 1-inch
tweeter.
In
the C series, the three square speakers start with the $179-each Ci130CS with
5.25-inch woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter, the $249-each Ci160CS with 6.5-inch
woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter, and the i160CSds -dipole speaker with 6.5-inch
woofer and 0.75-inch tweeter. Pricing wasn’t announced.
