Mahwah, N.J. – Boston Acoustics has developed its first TV-speaker base, which joins the brand’s selection of active soundbars.
The Boston Acoustics model will ship next week to join a growing number of TV-speaker bases in the market. Klipsch, Energy and LG, for example, have introduced their first TV-speaker bases, and SpeakerCraft and AudioXperts have expanded their selections.
Boston’s $299 TVee One Television Speaker Base joins the TVsee series of soundbars, which consist of three models at $199, $349, and $699, all with Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding and proprietary virtual surround processing.
The TVee One chassis is only 2.63 inches tall, and its 23.6-inch width and 14-inch depth accommodate most TVs up to 50 inches. The two-way base incorporates two 2×5-inch midrange/woofers, two 0.5-inch tweeters, and an amplifier that generates 75 watts of peak power.
The base also features Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, Boston’s Digitally Optimized Virtual Surround (DOVS) virtual surround technology, and BassTrac circuitry, which boosts bass output at lower listening levels.
The base connects to a TV or other source via optical, coaxial or analog inputs. Listening modes include a night mode for compressing dynamic range while others are sleeping, movie and movie wide modes, music and music wide modes, and a dialog mode for listening to newscasts and sporting events with a lot of dialog.
The TVee One comes with remote but also learns the commands of a TV or cable-box remote so it will turn on and off with the TV or cable box and respond to volume commands.
