Amazon Improves Kindle App

Seattle — Amazon.com launched a revised Kindle Store app for iPhones today, now optimized for the iPhone’s Safari Web browser.

The new Amazon Kindle for iPhone app is tailored to the size and shape of the iPhone and iPod Touch screens, said Amazon. The original Kindle app launched on the Apple App Store on March 4 and became the most popular book app in the store, said Amazon. Kindle VP Ian Freed said, “The most common feedback we heard from customers was that they wanted a better experience for purchasing new Kindle books from their iPhones. We’ve been working hard to respond to that feedback with a new Web site optimized for Safari on iPhone, and we’re excited to do that today.”

The Kindle app offers iPhone/iPod Touch users access to the Kindle store’s 280,000 books. It has an automatic bookmark function that retains the reader’s place whether the reader resumes reading on an iPhone or a Kindle e-book reader.
