Able Planet Unveils ‘Multi-Sensory’ Headphones

WHEAT RIDGE, COLO. — Headphones manufacturer Able Planet took the wraps off a headset that is designed to also function as a listening device for the hard of hearing.

The Linx Fusion is billed as the first multisensory headphone. It “simultaneously transmits sound through skin, bone and ear for unsurpassed sound quality, clarity and speech intelligibility,” the company said. Able Planet teamed with Bayer MaterialScience, and the devices features its ViviTouch 4D Sound, which employs electro active polymer technology (EAP) to enhance the perception of loudness without increasing volume, and enhance the bass response without overwhelming high frequency sounds.

The headset is part of Able Planet’s Live Sound Experience platform. According to the company, which has its roots in hearing technologies, “Current audio technologies struggle to replicate this experience, because fuller sounds can mask high tones making speech and music sound muddled.

The headphones were unveiled at the World Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Kevin Semcken, CEO of Able Planet, said in a statement: “The upcoming release of Linx Fusion headphones is just the beginning for this innovative new technology. Bayer MaterialSciences and Able Planet are developing a full line of next generation audio, communications and hearing health devices based on Linx Fusion proprietary technologies.”

The headphones will launch in the fourth quarter for a $349 suggested retail. It will be available nationwide, including through Best Buy, Sam’s Club and Sears.
