Amazon has already established a commanding lead in the connected-home space with it’s Alexa AI platform and Echo family of voice-activated products. So Alphabet had better come up with plenty of hardware and software support at its developer conference next week if Google Home hopes to avoid becoming the next Betamax or HD DVD.
“Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is far from standing still in its battle to win the smart home, meaning that Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) really needs to push before it suffers a defeat not unlike that suffered by Betamax at the hands of VHS.”
