Guess Who’ll Gain From Toys’R’Us’s Pain?

If you thought Amazon would be the biggest beneficiary of Toys”R”Us’ liquidation, guess again. According to Credit Suisse analyst Seth Sigman, Target, the No. 2 discount chain, will profit “disproportionately” from the toy store’s demise, given its close proximity to TRU locations and its already sizable playthings assortment. Exactly how big will the benefit be? In excess of $600 million, Sigman estimates, which equates to a 1 percent bump in comp sales. 

“Target could rake in more than $600 million in additional sales — which would translate into a nearly 1 percent lift in its comparable sales this year — as a result of the impending demise of Toys ‘R’ Us, according to a new research report.”
