Sound United Shifts Some Jobs To California

Vista, Calif. — DEI Holdings’ Sound United division is moving some functions at its Baltimore facility to DEI’s California location here.

Sound United markets audio under the Polk Audio, Definitive Technology and Boom brands.

Functions moving to Vista include inventory planning, supply chain/logistics, information technology, sales administration, administrative support, finance, accounting and human resources, the company said. Sound United’s engineering and technical team will remain Baltimore, as will the consumer technical-support team.

With the change, about 30 positions will be moved to Vista while more than 40 people will remain in Baltimore. About 10 positions will be eliminated. The reorganization will be completed by Aug. 31.

The move is designed “to improve company infrastructure, increase employee collaboration and integration, and eliminate redundancies and costs necessitated by operating major facilities on both coasts,” the company said.

The decision to bring select functions under one roof “will streamline our operations as a whole and position the company for long-term continued success,” said Sound United president Kevin Duffy.

Key management functions were already in Vista, where Duffy is based along with chief marketing officer Josh Talge and chief sales officer Scott Hagen.
