London –
has developed a U.S.-banded version of its first
phone with high-definition video capture, but the company isn’t commenting on
U.S. distribution plans.
The Vivaz, a 3G HSPA-equipped touchscreen phone, operates on the Symbian S50 5th edition OS, lacks hard QWERTY keyboard, and features 720p video recording through its 8.1-megapixel camera/camcorder. One tri-band HSPA version will operate in 3G mode in the U.S. 850/1900MHz bands while also operating in the foreign 2.1GHz band.
It’s due
in global markets in the first quarter, but the company didn’t say it would be
available in the U.S. at that time either as a locked or unlocked
phone.
Vivaz will
also be the second phone in the company’s selection, following the Xperia X10,
to adopt a new design called “human curvature,” which mirrors the shape of the
human body. More are due in the first half.
Other
features include Wi-Fi, VGA-resolution TV output, ability to upload HD video via
Wi-Fi to YouTube and Picasa in HD, Facebook apps, DLNA certification for audio
and photo sharing in a home network, face and smile detection, media player,
assisted GPS, geo-tagging, stereo Bluetooth, Microsoft Exchance ActivSync, FM
radio and 3.2-inch wide color LCD display.
