Nintendo Cuts Wii Price To $130

Redmond, Wash. – With the pending release of the Wii U gaming console, Nintendo said Monday it has cut the U.S. suggested retail price of its existing Wii console to $130 in advance of the holiday shopping season.

The price is being applied to a new configuration of the Wii console, which is beginning to arrive in stores now and will continue to ramp up through Oct. 28.

Nintendo said the new configuration features a black Wii console, the Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort titles on a single game disc, and matching black Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk controllers.

This new configuration will replace the current black Wii that comes with New Super Mario Bros. Wii and carries a $150 suggested retail, Nintendo said.

“Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America sales and marketing executive VP. “A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season.”

Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort represent two iconic games that helped pioneer the industry move toward motion-controlled video games. The games include a variety of sports that make use of the controllers motion-sensing capabilities.
