Walmart Teams Up With Google For Grocery Voice Ordering

New app brings voice ordering to Walmart customers

Walmart is taking the next step beyond grocery pickup and delivery services with its new Walmart Voice Order (WVO) app.

Geared primarily toward grocery delivery, consumers can use their Google Assistant-compatible devices to add products to their grocery lists right when they need to, whether at home or on the go.

While Walmart Voice Order may be viewed as convenient, a recent study by Field Agent reported that two-thirds of its study participants would opt for the Walmart website/app over WVO for keeping track of their grocery needs, if forced to choose only one.

Does this mean WVO will forever be stuck behind the Walmart app and website? Not necessarily. The Field Agent user-experience study also showed 71 percent are completely likely to use Walmart Voice Order again.

According to research from OC&C Strategy Consultants, the number of voice activated speakers in homes is set to surge to 55 percent by 2022 from 13 percent today, leading to even more v-commerce transactions for retailers to compete for.

WVO is usable on all Google Assistant-enabled devices, including Google Home Hub, iPhones, Android phones and smart watches. Walmart has indicated it plans to expand to other platforms in the future.
