Google Cast’s Net Widens

Google Cast is poised to replace smart TV platforms in select TVs from a variety of TV brands. Here’s what’s coming or already on the market:

Google Fiber TV: The Fiber TV pay-TV settop box, available in Google Fiber markets, will get Google Cast in the coming weeks.

Magnavox: The brand, marketed by P&F USA, hasn’t disclosed a timetable for a rollout.

Philips (P&F USA): P&F USA’s first Philipsbrand Google Cast TVs arrive in June and July via a quartet of 4K Ultra HD TVs featuring high dynamic range (HDR). The four 6000-series models are priced from $649 to $1,499 in screen sizes from 43 to 65 inches.

The company is also considering the use of Google Cast in a planned flagship 8600 series, which was shown at CES with wide color gamut, Dolby Vision, Open HDR, and parent Funai’s own Net TV platform. Deliveries have been pushed back until late this year or early next, and by that time, it might ship with Google Cast, said Karl Bearnarth, EVP of P&F USA. A planned Philips 7000 TV series was also planned for this year with Net TV, but introduction was canceled.

Polaroid: Empire Electronics, the Polaroid licensee for TVs in the U.S., plans summertime availability of Google Cast-equipped 4K TVs in the 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch at suggested retails from $499 to $999. In the fourth quarter, the company will add a 75-inch model at $1,899. They lack HDR capability.

Vizio: Google Cast is part of Vizio’s Smart Cast suite of technologies in the P and M series of tuner-less 4K TVs, or home theater displays, and the E series of tuner-less 4K TVs and tuner-equipped 1080p TVs.

The four P-series 4K TVs are already available at a suggested $999 for a 50-inch model, $1,299 for a 55-inch model, $1,999 for 65 inches, and $3,799 for 75 inches. The M series is rolling out in six screen sizes from 50 inches to 80 inches at suggested retails from $849 to $3,999. The E series is rolling out with seven tuner-less UHD displays and six 1080p TVs with tuners. The UHD displays range in price from $469 to $1,699 for models sized from 43 to 70 inches. The 1080p TVs are priced from $229 to $569 for models sized from 32 to 55 inches.

Westinghouse: The brand plans a 2017 launch of Cast-equipped TVs. Details were not disclosed.
