HP Adds $99 Windows Tablet, $199 Windows Notebook

Palo Alto, Calif. – Hewlett-Packard is bringing Windows 8 tablets down to new opening price points of $99 and $149, and it’s launching low-priced Windows notebooks at $199 and $229.

The company plans November availability at HPshopping.com and through select retailers.

The tablets are the HP Stream 7 Tablet, which starts at $99 retail, and the HP Stream 8 Tablet, which starts at $149. The notebooks are the HP Stream with 11.6-inch-diagonal screen, starting at $199, and the HP Stream with 13.3-inch display starting at $229. All feature Windows 8.1.

The company already offers Android tablets starting at $99. HP’s website also shows current Windows tablets starting at $399 for a 10-inch model and Windows notebooks starting at $249. The company has offered $199 Windows notebooks in the past, a spokesperson said.

The HP Stream 13.3 notebook and Stream 8 tablet come with optional 200MB of free T-Mobile 4G data each month with no annual contract for the life of the device.

HP Stream products, including the recently announced 14-inch HP Stream notebook, are positioned as thin and light devices without the high price tag of comparable products, and offer the power “for most every day computing tasks,” the company said. Stream products also offer Office 365.

The Intel-powered 7- and 8-inch tablets come with one year of Office 365 Personal, 1TB of Microsoft OneDrive storage for one year through a limited-time offer, and a full Windows 8.1 experience, the company said. The latter adds 60 minutes of Skype each month via T-Mobile.

Both tablets feature an HD screen and quad-core Intel processor. Other details were not available.

In the two notebooks, HP is incorporating a fanless design, 32GB of eMMC flash memory, Intel Celeron dual-core processor, HD displays, and optional colors such as magenta and blue.

The HP Stream 13.3 adds touch display and optional 200MB of free T-Mobile 4G data each month with no annual contract for the life of the device.

The notebooks also come with free 1TB of Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage for one year; Office 365 Personal for one year, and a $25 gift card for anything from the Microsoft Store such as apps, videos or Xbox games.

The 13-inch model’s battery life is rated at 7 hours and 45 minutes, and the smaller model’s battery can hold a charge for 8 hours and 15 minutes.
