San Diego — Sony has begun offering a trio of tabletop speakers, two of which incorporate Wi-Fi, AirPlay, DLNA, Bluetooth and Internet music streaming. The third is a Bluetooth speaker.

The top model adds playback of high-resolution music files.

The $699 SRS-X9, $299 SRS-X7 and $199 SRS-X5 are available in Sony stores, authorized dealers and online at Sony.com/WirelessSpeakers.

All three speakers, developed in collaboration with Sony Music, connect to NFC-enabled Bluetooth devices with a single tap and stream the AptX and AAC codecs over Bluetooth.

The top two models also connect to AirPlay- and DLNA-enabled devices via built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, and both offer direct access to online music and internet radio services such as Music Unlimited, Spotify and TuneIn Radio. Online music is available when consumers download a SongPal app to their mobile device.

The flagship AC-only STS-X9 adds playback of USB-connected audio sources, support for high-resolution audio codecs, and 154-watt output. The three-way seven-driver system features super tweeters, midrange drivers, biamplified subwoofer and dual passive radiators. The flagship measures 16.9 inches by 5.23 inches by 4.9 inches.

The flagship supports WAV files up to 192kHZ/24-bit, PCM FLAC up to 192/24, and PCM up to 192/34, the company’s website shows.

The portable SRS-X7 is a 32-watt two-way, three-driver model that lacks high-resolution playback and is more compact than the flagship at 11.8 by 5.2 by 2.4 inches. Its built-in rechargeable battery offers up to six hours of play time.

The portable two-way SRS-X5 features 20-watt output and up to eight hours of continuous playback. It also includes built-in subwoofer and microphone for hands-free phone calls. It measures 0.8 by 4.8 by 2 inches.

All three feature Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE HX), ClearAudio+ and S-Master Digital Amplifier technologies.
