Connected Data Unveils Drobo Mini Portable SSD Drive

San Francisco — Connected Data introduced this week the Drobo Mini with Solid State Disk (SSD) drive providing what the company calls the first portable, hot-swappable SSD solution with RAID data protection.

The portable Drobo Mini with SSD is available now in three capacity bundles of 1TB, 2TB and 4TB starting at a $1,199 suggested retail through channel partners and Drobostore.com.

Drobo Mini with SSD drives deliver as much as an 80 percent performance boost compared with a Mini configured with traditional spinning hard drives, the company said

The Drobo Mini is portable, rugged and expandable, making it ideal for pro and semi-pro filmmakers, and photographers who need to capture and protect data while on location, the company said.

It connects via Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 and features four 2.5-inch SSD drive bays with an mSATA accelerator option.

The compact unit weighs less than three pounds.

The Drobo Mini is said to have been designed to protect data without user intervention, even in the event of multiple SSD drive failures. If a drive fails, Drobo Mini automatically repairs itself and returns to a protected state while providing full access to data without affecting performance.

Battery backup is provided for additional security against data loss from power outages.

Drobo Mini is designed for expandability by adding a new drive or replacing a drive with a smaller or large one.

The design allows for cost-effect performance balance, the company said.
