Sprint Prepaid Brands Adding First Windows Phone

Irvine, Calif. – Sprint is stepping up its commitment to the Windows Phone OS with plans to offer a Windows phone for the first time through its prepaid Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile brands.

Boost and Virgin will offer the Lumia 635 Windows Phone 8.1 with LTE beginning Dec. 23.

Windows Phone will also take a more prominent role in Sprint postpaid marketing with Jan. 16 availability with a Sprint postpaid plan. Sprint currently offers two Windows phones, one from HTC and the other from Samsung, with postpaid service but only through the carrier’s telemarketing channel, not through Sprint stores or the carrier’s web site. The phone will be Sprint’s first Nokia phone in years.

On Dec. 23, the Lumia 635 will be available for $99 in cyan at www.boostmobile.com and in white at www.virginmobileusa.com. Distribution will be expanded Jan. 9 to Boost Mobile’s exclusive retail stores and select independent wireless dealers nationwide, followed later in January by sales through at select national retail locations.

Sprint postpaid distribution plans and price were unavailable.

Features include access to Sprint’s enhanced LTE network, available in 540 cities. The phone also features 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 4.5-inch 854 by 480 display with 221 ppi, 512MB RAM, 5-megapixel main camera, 8GB capacity, 128GB MicroSD slot, and Bluetooth 4.0.

AT&T and T-Mobile began offering the phone earlier this year. It was the first Lumia phone available in the U.S. out of the box with Windows Phone 8.1
