RadioShack Fills CEO Role With Australia’s Dene Rogers

RadioShack has found a new chief executive in Dene Rogers, a former managing director of Target Australia and one-time president/CEO of Sears Canada, following a three-month vacancy.

He succeeds Ron Garriques, who stepped down in January after assuming the post one year ago this month. Rogers becomes the second CEO to helm the chain since it was taken private last year by hedge fund Standard General, and is the 10th to occupy the corner office in the last 10 years.

In his new role, Rogers said he plans to “reinvent RadioShack’s business model to create a dynamic growth company.”

Chairman Robert Lavan said Rogers’ strategy calls for expanding the business into other market segments across a variety of platforms.

“Dene Rogers has a long and consistent record of business success,” Lavan said, and described his game plan as “an impressive vision.”

Rogers’ forte appears to be e-commerce. During his tenure as managing director of Target Australia (2011-2013), online sales grew more than 10-fold, he reported, while RadioShack credits him with building Sears Canada into that country’s largest and most profitable online retailer while heading the company from 2005 to 2011.

Before that he had senior VP stints at GE Capital and Starwood Hotels, and most recently served as chairman, CEO and director of several startup companies in North America and Australia.

Since it was acquired by Standard General in a series of bankruptcy auctions last year, RadioShack has entered a showroom partnership with Sprint, hired personality Nick Cannon and brought over his Ncredible tech brand, and relaunched RadioShack.com as a transactional site for DIY enthusiasts and the creator community.
