Amazon Winning At Mobile Retail Too

As the online shopping race shifts to m-commerce, it would appear that Amazon is killing it in that space as well.

According to a new report by market research firm SimilarWeb, Amazon’s is far and away the most dominant shopping app out there, boasting installation on 36 percent of all U.S. Android devices and ranking first in shopping app searches on Google Play during the critical holiday and Super Bowl selling seasons (October 2015-February 2016; see list, below).

And when viewed across all Google Play categories, the e-tailer actually placed fifth ( for Amazon Instant Video); eighth (for Amazon Prime); 14th (for Amazon App Store); and 15th (for Amazon Video).

And if that’s not enough, the company is also the most popular Internet search term among retailers, with the word “Amazon” pulling in 7.3 percent of all desktop shopping organic searches in the U.S. last year, SimilarWeb said.

But it’s not a complete shut-out: the researchers found that Walmart is a leader when it comes to converting its website customers into app users, with 65 percent of its in-store app traffic originating from Walmart.com.
