Amazon Echo Gets New Skill For Super Bowl

Super Bowl fans and couch potatoes rejoice — you can now order a Domino’s pizza without lifting a finger.

In time for Sunday’s Big Game, the national pizza chain has become the first quick-service restaurant to bring a digital ordering capability to Echo, Amazon’s proprietary wireless speaker and digital assistant. After enabling the Domino skill within the Amazon Alexa app, customers will now be able to call in that pepperoni pie by simply barking out the order.

“The magic of ordering pizza without lifting a finger and just using your voice is now a reality,” said Amazon Alexa director Rob Pulciani. “We’ve made it easy for companies like Domino’s to use the Alexa Skills Kit to create more natural, intuitive ways for customers to interact with their services.”

The chain expects to sell more than 12 million pizza slices nationwide on Sunday, having delivered enough pies during last year’s contest to stretch across more than 4,200 football fields, the company said.

Echo itself will have a star moment during the Big Game when Amazon airs its first-ever Super Bowl ad, featuring Alec Baldwin and Miami Dolphins great Dan Marino.

In other Echo news, Amazon has released a free over-the-air software update that brings Alexa support to first-generation Fire TV and Fire TV Stick streaming devices. The update, which starts today and will continue over the next few weeks, also provides improvements to the Amazon Video add-on subscription service (including easier subscription access and sign-up), and Bluetooth headphone support for Fire TV Stick devices.

Amazon said it has added dozens of Alexa skills to Fire TV devices since September, including home automation, local search, quick-purchase through Amazon.com, and real-time traffic advisories.
