Bentonville, Ark. - In a flurry of executive appointments, Walmart has appointed a new head of Sam's Club and a new chief of U.S. operations.

Running the warehouse club division effective Feb. 1 will be Rosalind Brewer, former president of Walmart's Eastern U.S. business unit. In her new role as Sam's Club president/CEO she succeeds the widely lauded Brian Cornell, who is leaving the company to move closer to his children.

"My wife and I want to ... live in the same ZIP code as our children -- not just occasionally seeing them in hotels and restaurants," he said.

Heading operations for Walmart's U.S. stores is Gisel Ruiz, who moves from personnel executive VP to executive VP/COO, with responsibility for more than 3,800 locations across three regional business units.

In addition, Karenann Terrell has been promoted from assistant to chief information officer, succeeding Rollin Ford who was promoted to chief administrative officer with responsibility for the company's information systems division, global sourcing, global business processes, global shared services and global customer insights.

The appointments follow that of former CNET CEO Neil Ashe as president/CEO of Walmart's global e-commerce business earlier this week.
