Bentonville, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores has promoted Carter Cast, who will lead the U.S. business strategy function for the company, and named Raul Vazquez his successor as president/CEO of Walmart.com.

Vazquez will succeed Cast, who is moving into a broader role for Wal-Mart, leading the business strategy and strategic planning initiatives for Wal-Mart Stores’ U.S. division. Vazquez will retain oversight of all day-to-day operations at Walmart.com, and will focus on further integration of online and in-store capabilities that provide multichannel options for customers.

Vazquez will also expand the site’s overall merchandise assortment and product information, the company said. Cast and Vazquez will both report to Eduardo Castro-Wright, president/CEO of Wal-Mart Stores' U.S. division.

“The new appointments of Carter Cast and Raul Vazquez and their extensive expertise in the online retail environment uniquely positions Wal-Mart to build upon our strength and ability to provide a comprehensive, multichannel experience for our customers,” said Castro-Wright in a release. “Carter’s outstanding leadership, strategic vision and proven success at Walmart.com will help us further advance our U.S. business strategy. And I am extremely pleased to have a talent like Raul leading our fast-growing online business where his ecommerce and marketing skills will help further leverage the Wal-Mart brand."

Cast joined Walmart.com in 2000 and served in several leadership positions where he led the company through a rapid period of growth in site traffic and sales, and ultimately led the division to profitability. He became the company’s CEO in 2005 and secured Walmart.com’s position as the No. 3 online retailer in the country, according to the company.

Vazquez joined Walmart.com in 2002 and most recently served as the company’s chief marketing officer. He oversaw the launch of the site’s major redesign initiative last year, and managed all marketing and creative functions for the online business.

“I'm very proud to have been part of Walmart.com from the beginning, working with such a committed and talented group of associates over the past years. Under Raul's new leadership, I know Walmart.com will achieve great success and play an even more important role in serving our customers both online and in our stores,” said Cast.

Walmart.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., headquartered in Brisbane, Calif.
