Toshiba Debuts AMD-Equipped Satellite

Irvine, Calif. — Toshiba today launched the A215 Satellite notebook series which is powered by a variety of AMD’s Turion 64 dual-core mobile processors.

This is the first time AMD processors have been used by Toshiba in a Satellite notebook since 2000, a company spokesman said.
There are seven models under the A215 label that will sell through retail. While these can be found in several configurations a basic model wukk feature an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology Gold Edition processor, 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 250GB hard drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive, 15.4-inch display, ATI Radeon X1200 graphics card with 128MB of memory and a built-in Web cam and microphone. A model thus configured would carry a price in the $899 range. A full-featured model with a faster processor, more memory and higher-end graphics card will run about $1,299.

The A215 is also one of the first Toshiba lines to feature Skype’s communications suite. This is part of a deal between Toshiba and Skype that will place Skype software on select configurations of the Satellite A215, Satellite X205, Tecra M8 and Qosmio F45 series.
