Systemax Relaunching CircuitCity.com

Port Washington, N.Y. — Systemax plans to relaunch CircuitCity.com within the next two days, according to an announcement on the bankrupt retailer’s Web site.

Systemax acquired Circuit City’s brand and domain name in a liquidation auction earlier this month for $14 million plus a guaranteed percentage of sales.

The Web site was recently updated with a placeholder page announcing the imminent relaunch and featuring an introductory video by Systemax retail chief executive Gilbert Fiorentino, who is seen standing before Circuit City’s logo.

The announcement, signed by Fiorentino, promises lower prices, special deals, a wider selection, same-day shipping and a better “24/7 customer-first” service department.

“We have a team of folks feverishly working to put up the finishing touches on the new Web site,” he said. “We ask that you come back in a few days and experience the new CircuitCity.com.”

Systemax, an IT manufacturer and marketer based here, similarly acquired the brand, trademarks and e-commerce business of CompUSA in January 2008. That deal, which fetched about $30 million, also included some 16 former CompUSA storefronts.

The company continues to sells its Systemax-branded computers and Ultra memory and IT accessories through its TigerDirect stores, catalog and Web site.

Systemax recently reported a 52-percent decline in

first-quarter

net income to $8.7 million.
