San Diego – SoundCast Systems is broadening the appeal of its wireless outdoor OutCast and OutCast Jr. speaker systems with the development of a Bluetooth adapter.
Soundcast’s battery-operated outdoor speakers use proprietary 2.4GHz wireless technology to stream music from a PC or from a tabletop iPod/iPhone dock up to 300 feet away. The single-chassis cylindrical stereo speakers, which disperse sound in a 360-degree pattern, retail for $899 and $599.
With the addition of the BlueCast Bluetooth receiver adapter, the speakers will also stream music from any mobile device equipped with stereo Bluetooth. The BlueCast ships in early June at a suggested $79.
BlueCast, which plugs into the speakers’ 3.5mm input, streams aptX and AAC over Bluetooth to improve sound quality. It is weather-resistant and specially designed for a perfect fit and use with all OutCast systems.
BlueCast’s rechargeable battery delivers eight to 10 hours of playback time and recharges via USB connection in 1.5 hours.
