PlayStation3 Hits 70M Milestone

Foster City, Calif. — Sony released cumulative sales numbers for the PlayStation3 console, showing 70 million units worldwide as of Nov. 4.

The milestone comes less than six years after the platform’s launch in 2006.

Sony is catching up to chief rival Microsoft, which recently announced the same number of sales for the Xbox 360.

Nintendo leads the pack, with sales of an estimated 96 million Wii consoles since 2006.

Sony said its PlayStation Move motion controller has sold 15 million units worldwide as of Nov. 11. The Move controller, which launched in 2010, now supports more than 400 games.
