– Onkyo has upgraded its HT-RC line of home-theater receivers with two new
7.2-channel models.
One of the units, the HT-RC360,
lowers the suggested retail for features including Audyssey DSX, Dolby Pro
Logic IIz and networking to $549 from a recently established $599 price point.
The other unit, the
HT-RC370, priced to retail for $849, adds Audyssey MultEQ XT processing for improved
room equalization setup and is Select2 Plus-certified by THX.
Both models ship this
month and replace the HT-RC260 and the HT-RC270, respectively.
Shared features include
the new Marvell Qdeo 4K video-processing chip, which can up-scale video to as
much as 4K of horizontal resolution, and a front-panel USB port that offers a
direct digital connection for an iPod or iPhone, along with support for audio
playback from USB mass-storage devices.
The receivers also support
streaming PC audio and Internet radio from such platforms as Pandora, Rhapsody,
Napster, SiriusXM Internet Radio, Slacker, Mediafly and vTuner, and provide
compatibility with Windows 7 and DLNA.
Both models can utilize Onkyo’s
free remote app for iPod, iPhone or iPad to control the receivers, and are
compatible with the recently announced UWF-1 wireless USB adapter that provides
an IEEE 802.11b/g/n connection to access music on a home network.
HDMI ports abound, the
company said, and both models now also offer connections for Ethernet and
Onkyo’s proprietary Universal Port (U-Port).
The units feature
7.2-channel surround sound systems with Audyssey DSX or Dolby ProLogic IIz
processing to provide alternative height or wide channels. Onkyo said the advanced
HDMI interface supports lossless high-definition surround sound via Dolby
TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio codecs.
The HT-RC370 also features
Dolby Volume for optimal sound at any volume setting, and Onkyo’s three-stage
inverted Darlington circuitry for higher dynamics and lower distortion, while the
HT-RC360 employs Audyssey 2EQ room correction and includes Audyssey Dynamic EQ
and Dynamic Volume to correct loudness issues.
Both receivers also
include Onkyo’s proprietary WRAT (wide range amplifier technology) amplifiers;
Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs, which are provided for all channels; and the
company’s overlaid graphic onscreen display, which allows users to watch a
program while operating the menus.
